Sri Lanka hospitals to get Rs 300M in emergency supplies from JICA
The Japan International Co-operation Agency said it will provide 300 million rupees of supplies to several hospitals to tackle Coronavirus and infectious diseases as the country suffers forex shortages.
Tetsuya Yamada, Chief Representative of JICA Sri Lanka office aid emergency aid will enable lifesaving medicines to be acquired quickly.
“Sri Lanka is still facing serious shortages of medicine due to the ongoing crisis,” the Japanese aid agency said. “Some hospitals need to suspend their surgeries because of lack of medicines and surgical equipment.
“The prices of medicines are rapidly increasing, which are mostly imported but unable to import because of the current situation in Sri Lanka.” JICA hopes that the additional procurement of medicine contributes to mitigate the serious impact on the health services.
Equipment will be provided to base hospitals in Teldeniya, Warakapola, Walikanda, Pimbura, Nawalapitiya, Hingurakgoda, Karawanella, and Avissavella for treatment) and PCR test support for District General Hospital Hambantota. Capacity will also be boosted. EconomyNext
