The Uttar Pradesh government announced on Friday that 400 oxygen-producing plants in the state have been operationalised, while work is underway for the other 155 plants to be functional.

While reviewing the Covid-19 situation across the state in a high-level meeting with senior officials, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said,“12 more oxygen plants have become functional in the last 4 days. The process of establishing the remaining under-construction plants should be completed in a time-bound manner.”

A total of 555 oxygen plants were sanctioned during the second coronavirus wave. As many as 25 oxygen plants were functional before the state government ordered the construction of more in the view of a third wave, according to officials.

The government has directed the availability of medical oxygen at community health centres and primary health centres, besides hospitals and medical colleges. Additionally, oxygen plants are to be made mandatory in hospitals of more than 50 beds capacity.
