50-bed hospital to come up at Ghaziabad soon

IN Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad will soon receive a 50-bed Combined Hospital.Officials said on Monday that the UP Housing and Development Board has been given the task of constructing the hospital. The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has already provided land in Dundahera for this purpose.Senior officials of the housing board will carry out a spot inspection in a few weeks and prepare their report on the cost and other aspects of the proposed hospital.

There was a need for a hospital in Vijay Nagar for a long time.Once complete, the Combined Hospital will serve a population of about 10 lakh in the city.It would also reduce the burden on the 166-bed MMG District Hospital and the 100-bed District Womens Hospital, which see a significant footfall of patients from across the district on a daily basis.Aditya Sharma, a junior engineer (health department), said that the hospital’s construction would cost around Rs 22 crore, but that the exact cost will be revealed only after the Boards’ report.

The plan has yet to see the light of day.In Ghaziabad, there is a huge shortage of health facilities, whether it is hospitals in urban areas, or community health facilities and primary care facilities in rural areas.Against the requirement of at least nine CHCs, the district has only four. There are only 16 PHCs per 31 people, which is a decrease of 20%.
