2021 – A road to recovery

2021 seems to be a year of recovery for India. While the market is showing signs of growth, an overwhelming number of the population that contracted COVID-19 is also on the road to recovery, albeit with several challenges.

Many COVID-19 recovered patients have been at risk of serious impairment or disability. The virus seems to have had a major impact on their lungs and heart among other organs, leading to long term health complications. Health experts observe that imaging tests of the heart taken during the recovery phase of these patients show lasting damage to the heart muscle, increasing the risk of heart complications. Their lungs have suffered long-standing damage as well, leading to breathing problems due to reduced lung capacity. Such patients are now required to do several follow-ups, involving routine check-ups and tests after the discharge. Cardiopulmonary tests have become the need of the hour. It has also become imperative to put these patients under rehabilitation immediately to decrease the consequences of the injury.

Given the current situation, SCHILLER this year aims to provide a holistic diagnostic solution, equipped with the latest technology to its customers, to help them tackle the impending healthcare problems the country is likely to face. SCHILLER will continue to promote its Ganshorn’s devices – Ganshorn SpiroScout, Ganshorn PowerCube Body+, Ganshorn PowerCube Diffusion+ and Ganshorn PowerCube-Ergo – used for pulmonary function testing. Its CPET (Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing) products – Cardiovit CS-200 series – will also be a major focus this year to cater to the hospitals that are looking to increase Cardiopulmonary Rehabs for patients recovering from severe conditions.

SCHILLER also plans to promote its Cardiac Rehabilitation Systems or SRMS (SCHILLER Rehabilitation Management System) that will enable safe and simultaneous training of up to 16 patients. This software will automatically control all connected ergometers and treadmills. The process of entering patient data, managing exercise sessions and creating reports will no longer require tedious manual steps.

An addition to SCHILLER’s PFT (Pulmonary Function Testing) product basket this year is tremoflo C-100, world’s smallest FOT (Forced Oscillometry Technique) device manufactured by the Montreal based healthcare company, Thorasys Inc. This device has been designed mainly for paediatric and senior patients who are unable to perform spirometry tests due to forceful inhalation and exhalation. Tests done with tremoflo C-100 require patients to apply gentle tidal breathing, minimizing their effort. As we see it, FOT devices will rule the roost in the coming years and we expect tremoflo C-100 to do just that.

We look forward to beginning this year on a positive note. Help the medical fraternity rebuild what has been destroyed by the 2020 health crisis and collectively triumph over the healthcare challenges that the pandemic has left us with.
