Abbott: Afinion™ 2 analyzer

For the use only of registered medical practitioners or a hospital or a laboratory.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is a rapidly developing field in medical technology, which focuses on bringing accurate testing for various conditions directly to the site of patient care. Abbott’s Afinion™ 2 analyzer is an advanced, easy to use and patient friendly offerings for testing requirements related to diabetes screening and monitoring.

The Afinion™ 2 analyzer is the result of years of continuous product innovation and refinement and delivers actionable point-of-care test results in just minutes. With its compact size and panel of tests, the Afinion™ 2 system is ideal for point-of-care testing in physician offices, clinics, community health centers, retirement homes, emergency rooms, and hospital outpatient clinics. From just a fingerstick sized sample, highly accurate results for HbA1c, ACR, lipid panel, and CRP are made available during the consultation.

Consultations with patients who do not have their lab results are challenging and inefficient. Point-of-care HbA1c testing can improve operational efficiency and lead to increased patient motivation and satisfaction1-4. Point-of-care testing leads to reduced workload in the practice including fewer follow-up calls, fewer follow-up letters, and fewer patient revisits3. More informed decision-making improves patient-clinician relationships and patient motivation and attitude.

The Afinion™ HbA1c is a simple fingerstick test that provides a patient’s HbA1c value in three minutes, during the consultation. It is highly accurate and requires very small sample volume. It is US FDA cleared, CLIA waived, NGSP, and IFCC certified and has no interference from common hemoglobin variants. Afinion™ HbA1c has 24 months shelf life and 3 months of room temperature storage. It has ready-to-use controls in two levels. The Afinion™ 2 analyzer has a simple 3 step procedure and can reliably transfer test results to an information system.
