AIIMS RDA raises concerns about healthcare workers

Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS has written a letter to Union Health Minister Dr Harsha Vardhan and raised concerns about healthcare workers succumbing to Covid-19 as suggested by symptoms but with a negative test report. AIIMS RDA in the letter has said ‘As we are aware of false negatives and discrepancies arising at multiple levels (RTPCR vs Antigen based test, Swab collection and transport, sampling before/after death etc).

Hence RDA AIIMS has requested Union Health Ministry to issue a directive to consider all deaths while on duty/quarantine to be treated as Covid-19 deaths so that monetary and other benefits are provided to them as their grieving family rightly deserves. AIIMS RDA has given the reference of Dr Abhishek Bhayana, Resident, MAMC Dental college who succumbed while working in Covid-19 ward even after his tests reports were negative.

AIIMS RDA wrote – “Healthcare workers who die while on duty or quarantine should be declared as Covid-19 deaths even if the tests are negative and be eligible for compensation unless an alternate cause is proven beyond doubt.”

Many such incidents have come into light where various health workers from various parts of the country have lost their life due to Covid-19. Various instances have reported from throughout the country where many healthcare workers who have lost their lives fighting Covid-19 but they have tested negative. AIIMS RDA in the statement said, “As a multisystem, Covid-19 can also have unusual manifestations like Myocardial infarction, stroke etc.”

Healthcare workers are the frontline workers who have been fighting a battle against Covid-19. Many of the healthcare workers have lost their lives during the corona pandemic. – Times Now News
