BBCI strives to provide medical facilities to ECHS beneficiaries

A Memorandum of Association (MoA) was inked with Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati on October 26 to provide medical facilities to the beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). This effort is likely to benefit nearly 115,000 armed forces in the entire northeastern region.

Taking to Twitter, the official account of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute wrote “A Memorandum of Association for providing medical facilities to #ECHS beneficiaries in @BorooahDr was signed on 26th October 2022. This will benefit 115,000 armed forces in the entire #NorthEast #India”.

The ECHS Scheme aims to provide allopathic and AYUSH medicare to Ex-servicemen pensioner and their dependents through a network of ECHS Polyclinics, Service medical facilities, Government hospitals, private hospitals/specified Government and AYUSH hospitals spread across the country.

The ECHS Central Organization is located in Delhi and functions under the Chief of Staff Committee (COSC) through AG and DGDC&W in Army HQ. It is headed by Managing Director, ECHS, a serving Major General. There are 28 Regional Centres ECHS and 426 ECHS Polyclinics.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Defence (Army) selected 27 hospitals where ECHS beneficiaries can get treatment for Cancer. Among these medical centres, three belonged from northeastern regions – Dr B. Borooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati; Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal in Manipur; and Mizoram Civil Hospital in Aizawl. Northeast Today
