Cardiology OPD at GDMC Hospital Soon

In a major relief for the poor patients, the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has made arrangements for services of the senior cardiologist of Max Hospital, New Delhi, Dr Rahul Chandola in the hospital. In the absence of any cardiologist, the patients visiting GDMC Hospital have been facing problems. The principal of GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that Dr Chandola who is an eminent cardiothoracic surgeon and his team have accepted the proposal sent by the college to see patients free of cost at GDMC Hospital every Saturday.  He said that the patients would also be provided with facility of echo and Tread Mill Test (TMT) in the hospital itself. “We have made arrangements to refer the patients who require surgery or any further treatment to the panelled hospital under Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand Yojana. Our endeavor is   meant to ensure that the poor patients get the benefit of cardiac surgery at no or very low costs,’’ he said.

The principal further informed that the college has sent a proposal to the state government under which advanced cath-lab and Operation Theatre for cardiac surgery will be set up at GDMC hospital. Notably, Dr Chandola and his team had visited GDMC Hospital on Wednesday and held discussion with the medical superintendent (MS) of GDMC Hospital, Dr KK Tamta and other doctors of the hospital. It is pertinent to mention here that the GDMC Hospital which is the biggest government hospital in the state has been without services of a cardiologist for the past one and half years. The solitary cardiologist left in the hospital Dr KB Joshi had been transferred way back in 2017. – Daily Pioneer
