Erbe Elektromedizin to acquire Maxer Endoscopy

Erbe Elektromedizin announced today that it is set to acquire Maxer Endoscopy for an undisclosed amount.

Teubingen, Germany–based Erbe Elektromedizin develops, manufactures and distributes surgical instruments and devices in almost all specialist areas. Combined with other Erbe technologies, the surgical instruments are based on electrosurgery.

Tuttlingen, Germany–based Maxer specializes in a wide range of endoscopic systems and instruments for minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, urology, pediatric surgery, arthroscopy, spine endoscopy and ENT surgery.

Erbe said in a news release that, with Maxer’s high-end visualization capabilities for NIR fluorescence-guided surgery, the company will be able to offer best-in-class performance with 4K and fluorescence-guided systems in not only endoscopy but also in open surgeries.

The combination of electrosurgery and imaging is slated to offer added value by processing and combining data through the use of artificial intelligence, leading to new treatment options and enhanced patient safety, the companies say.

“This acquisition reflects our determination to become a solution provider for surgeries and procedures where visualization is critical. We will offer holistic solutions, from visualization to therapy,” Erbe Elektromedizin CEO & president Christian O. Erbe said in the release. “Entering into the world of fluorescence imaging systems is the logical first step to provide the required added value to our customers.” Mass Device
