Expert committee to study feasibility of cancer hospital

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Tanaji Sawant on Monday informed the state legislative Assembly that an expert committee will study feasibility of the construction of a cancer hospital on Bombay Port Trust land in Wadala or at a vacant plot at Bandra Reclamation.

Replying to an attention motion in the House, Sawant said that the state government has been launching cancer testing and checking sessions at all medical colleges in the state once a week, for early detection and treatment of the disease.

Sawant said that he will also hold meetings with the Urban Development Department to finalise the plan for cancer hospitals.

BJP MLA Ashish Shelar earlier said that the Tata Hospital in Parel was overburdened, and a state-run hospital for cancer treatment was required. Pointing out a land parcel at Bandra Reclamation, Shelar said it could be utilised by changing its reservation by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Indian Express
