Goa to upgrade Ponda Sub-District Hospital

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated the second generic medicine centre in South Goa on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he assured upgradation of the Ponda Sub-District Hospital, by providing medical equipment and filling the vacant post of surgeon. He said it will not be a just referral hospital.

Rane also assured to start a generic medicine centre at every Primary Health Centre in Goa. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra established opposite Sub-District Hospital by Prabhakar Yerulkar family.

Health Minister Rane appreciated Yerulkar family for supporting the government during the tough Covid pandemic time. He said the government can’t forget their contribution.

Rane also questioned about the missing foundation stone plaque at Sub District Hospital. He said former CM Pratapsing Rane and then Minister Ravi Naik had laid the foundation stone for the same. He directed officials of Sub-District Hospital to reinstall the name plaque in its place.

He said with starting generic medicine centres at every PHC people will get medicines at a cheaper rate.

The health minister said so far one lakh breast screening have been completed and 1.5 lakh more will be done to fight against breast cancer.

Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik said now people will get medicines at a cheap rate. He appreciated the Health Minister for starting Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Ponda, which is the second in South Goa with first one started at Margao earlier.

PMC Chairperson RiteshNaik and NRI Commissioner Adv Narendra Sawaikar also spoke on occasion. Dr Jayshree Marcaikar MS of Ponda Sub-District Hospital was present. Herald Goa
