Govt to increase budget for medical tests under Ayushman Bharat Yojana

The central government is planning to increase the budget for medical tests under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Beneficiaries of the yojana will now be able to conduct expensive tests like MRI and PET scan for free.

Until now, the limit for radiology examinations under the yojana was Rs 5000 per year. In this, family members could get tested only once in a year. Patients were often forced to spend their own money on expensive tests. The new change in budget will bring relief to the patients registered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

The National Health Authority has sent a proposal to increase the budget for medical examinations to the states. The condition for the budget increase is that the state government will have to bear 40 percent of the charges.

The cost of MRI tests at private centres is around Rs 5000-7000 and PET scans are conducted for around Rs 11,000 – 15,000. India Today
