Health research, tech advances crucial for India to become developed nation

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer exhorted the students to venture into the technological advances in the health sector as India embarks on the ambitious plan to become a developed country by 2047.

Governor and Chancellor of Dr YSR University of Health Sciences Abdul Nazeer presided over the 26th Annual Convocation of the University held here on Tuesday.

Addressing the students, the Governor said that as India embarks on the ambitious plan to become a developed country by 2047, by the time the health research becomes crucial to address the country’s healthcare challenges and by venturing into health research and technological advances in healthcare sector, it is possible to transform the healthcare landscape in the country, and build a healthier future for our citizens and the society.

The Governor said; “Andhra Pradesh has always been in the forefront of health care services and medical education and that the University of Health Sciences, was the first of its kind established in the country. During Covid–19 pandemic, Doctors played a crucial role in diagnosis, containment and treatment of the virus and their dedication and commitment to treat the affected people, despite increased personal risk was highly appreciable, and it was the best example of public health response.”

He said that successive Governments have recognised the need to provide quality health care to the citizens, and have been striving hard to ensure availability of qualified healthcare personnel and essential medicines in all govt. hospitals. The Governor congratulated the students who received their degrees and meritorious students who received their medals during the Convocation.

Earlier, Dr Pratima Murthy, Director & Senior Professor of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, who was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the University, delivered the Convocation Address as Chief Guest.

Governor Abdul Nazeer presented degrees and gold medals to the meritorious students. Dr Korukonda Babji, Vice-Chancellor, presented the Annual Report of the University. V. Radhika Reddy, Registrar, Members of the Executive Council, Members of the Faculty, Administrative staff of Dr YSR University of Health Sciences, were among those present on the occasion.
