Hospitals with more than 50 beds will get oxygen generating plants

All hospitals with more than 50 beds will have oxygen generating plants and arrangements are being made to ready 4,200 beds with oxygen facility through pipelines as part of measures to tackle the possible third wave of Covid in SPSR Nellore district.

In addition to this, paediatric ICU will be established in all major hospitals such as GGH and Narayana to treat the children up to the age group of 18 years. The present oxygen generating capacity of 45 tonnes per day is being increased to 60 tonnes soon.

As of now, 8,860 litres of oxygen can be generated per minute from the existing plants, according to district collector of SPSR Nellore district K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu.

Speaking to this newspaper, the collector said Krishnapatnam Port management (Adani) was establishing an oxygen plant for the area hospital in Kavali while a pharmaceutical company was funding for a similar plant at the government hospital in Vinjamur.

In fact, industries and philanthropists are supporting the efforts of the administration to handle the Covid crisis and they have donated Rs 4 crore worth of medical equipment including oxygen concentrators.

According to the collector, nodal officers posted to different hospitals during the second wave have been monitoring the infrastructure development works. They are also organising training programmes for all doctors and paramedical staff working in government hospitals to treat children (paediatrics) and they have already completed six rounds of training so far.
