How Samsung Galaxy Ring helps in measuring health indicators

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit lineups have established themselves as excellent fitness-tracking wearables. Yet, despite its success, Samsung isn’t resting. The company is displaying signs of shifting its focus to a smaller form factor and a different body part. It’s possible that the Samsung Galaxy Ring will soon be adorning your fingers near you. Here’s everything we know about it.

In 2022, patents for the device surfaced, and the Korean Intellectual Property Right Information Service (KIPRIS) granted a trademark for the Samsung Galaxy Ring. The description was as follows: “A ring-shaped smart device designed to measure health indicators and sleep.” This screen-free experience appeals to many users who simply seek to track their essential metrics without any distractions.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: Expected specs and features
According to patent filings initially reported by Korean outlet Naver, the Samsung Galaxy Ring may provide extensive health-tracking functionalities. The filings indicate the inclusion of ECG (Electrocardiogram) and PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensors, enabling users to measure heart rate and monitor temperature. These features align the Galaxy Ring with the advanced capabilities of the current leader in the smart ring market, the Oura Ring 3. Furthermore, an earlier patent suggests potential integration with smart home devices, indicating that Samsung might offer Galaxy Ring users the convenience of controlling connected devices like smart TVs.

In addition to the patent filings, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is expected to include various notable features. These may encompass the capability to take ECG measurements, monitor temperature, and even control other connected devices. Furthermore, there are indications that the Galaxy Ring might also offer the functionality to measure blood pressure, aligning it with the capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

Expected release date
Given the limited information available, it is challenging to estimate a specific release date. Venturing into uncharted territory, Samsung will undoubtedly strive to avoid any missteps. To compete effectively with existing smart rings, the company will need to ensure that the device is meticulously refined prior to its launch. Considering the scarcity of rumors or leaks, a 2023 release appears unlikely. However, it remains a possibility that Samsung may provide further details or teasers about the device at its upcoming Unpacked event. Mashable India
