Implement BMWMH Rules, Hospitals Told

All the hospitals in the temple city should implement Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) (BMWMH) Rules-2018, said Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner V Vijay Rama Raju while participating in a one-day workshop on bio-medical waste management organised by regional office of the AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) here. He made it clear to hospital managements not to mix bio-medical waste with general waste being generated in residential houses. As per the BMWMH rules, hospitals have to appoint one nodal staff for maintaining the hospital as infection free, the civic chief said and added that hospitals should enter into MoU with civic body concerned for disposal of bio-medical waste.

The Municipal Commissioner instructed hospitals and nursing homes to take trade license from the civic body. It is mandatory for every commercial establishment including medical shops and diagnostic labs to get trade license from the MCT, he stated and warned of collecting huge fine if they found running without license. The onus lies on hospital to provide parking for those visiting the hospital, he mentioned. The civic chief asked hospitals to allocate building or apartment cellar for vehicle parking only. The MCT will be conducting an awareness meeting on segregation of bio-medical waste with the cooperation of APNA and IMA soon.  SVU Professor Karthikeyan, APNA President Dr S Balarama Raju and IMA President Dr Parthasarathy Reddy were present. – The Hans India
