India reports 43,654 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours

India on Wednesday reported 43,654 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while 640 people died due to coronavirus, as per the Union health ministry data. India’s active caseload now stands at 3,99,436.

The top five states which registered maximum cases are Kerala with 22,129 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 6,258 cases, Mizoram with 1,845 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,767 cases and Odisha with 1,629 cases.

More than 77 per cent of the new cases were reported from these five states, with Kerala alone accounting for 50.69 per cent of the new infections.

Maximum casualties in India were reported in Maharashtra (254), followed by Kerala with 156 daily deaths.

India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.39 per cent.

On Tuesday, India registered its lowest daily Covid-19 cases since March 16 with 29,689 cases and 415 deaths.

Meanwhile, a total of 41,678 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 3,06,63,147 in the country. India has administered a total of 40,02,358 doses in the last 24 hours. India Today
