Indian origin USAID official to boost US-India health partnership

From March 19-22, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Global Health, Dr Atul Gawande, is visiting India to move forward the U.S.-India health partnership. Assistant Administrator Gawande will visit New Delhi, and Dewas and Indore, Madhya Pradesh to engage with government officials, healthcare professionals, academics, civil society, and business leaders to underscore the United States’ commitment to partnering with India to forge global solutions to health challenges.

The U.S.-India development collaboration over the past 70 years has been transformational, strengthening both the United States and India, and making the world safer and more prosperous as a result. Today, the United States and India are partnering to advance and achieve shared global health and development priorities. As two of the world’s largest economies and hubs for technology and innovation, the United States and India partner to test and pilot healthcare models and high-impact innovations to address complex health challenges that can be scaled and replicated, not just in India, but worldwide.

Assistant Administrator Gawande’s visit will reinforce the United States’ commitment to collaborating with India to address some of the world’s toughest development challenges, including harnessing emerging technologies to advance global health goals, bolstering primary health systems to strengthen global health security, and working directly with communities to formulate the most equitable and effective responses.
