J&J Korea to transform into digital healthcare company

Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Korea said Monday that it would restart as J&J MedTech, a total solution provider for optimal treatment.

At a news conference to rebrand J&J MedTech, J&J MedTechh North Asia Managing Director Oh Jin-yong unveiled the company’s vision to lead the innovation of the future medical market by adding digital aspects to the company’s core concept.

“Digital transformation is rapidly going on in various industries,” Oh said. “In line with such development, we will take a new leap forward as a medical technology company that encompasses medical devices and digital solutions, such as robotic surgical instruments and medical software.”

Oh explained that the company plans to develop a new model of future healthcare in the digital era, contribute to improving human health with cutting-edge technology and innovation, and present an integrated solution for optimal treatment away from the existing product-centered research.

He then presented three future directions of the company — leading healthcare innovation, developing digital healthcare solutions covering the entire patient treatment process, and using data science for optimal treatment.

“The transition to J&J MedTech is part of our effort to provide innovative treatment solutions to meet the changing needs of patients and the rapidly digitizing healthcare environment,” Oh said. “Our vision is to provide smarter, less invasive, and more personalized care for patients using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and virtual reality.”

Oh stressed the importance of the Korean market for J&J.

“In Korea, the medical device industry continues to grow, and ventures with innovative technologies are emerging,” Oh said. “Thanks to its globally competitive medical staff and medical infrastructure, Korea is also emerging as a new center for medical devices innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Oh stressed that Korea’s new position in the medical device industry had led Joaquin Duato, J&J’s new chairman, to visit Korea as his first Asia-Pacific destination.

“J&J MedTech Korea has established a cooperative relationship with the Korean medical device industry over the past 34 years,” Oh said. “The company supplies medical device products, provides services, and creates a better healthcare industry ecosystem in the Korean market.” KBR
