Kerala to establish Medical Equipment and Devices Park

Kerala will establish a Medical Equipment and Devices Park aiming to reduce dependency on pharmaceutical companies functioning in other states and to ensure the availability of quality medical equipment for the health sector in the State.

A decision in this regard was taken by a meeting of top officials chaired by Kerala Health Minister Veena George and Industries Minister P Rajeev here on Saturday.

Minister P Rajeev said both the Health and Industry ministries are cooperating to overcome the possible shortage of medical equipment in case of the third wave of the COVID in the State.

The Industry department is also seeking the option of producing quality medicines domestically needed for the requirement of the State.
Health Minister Veena George, who called for self sufficiency in medicinal production, said Kerala was importing 90 percent of its required medicines from other states.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Dr Asha Thomas, Principal Secretary (Industries) Dr K Ilankovan, Principal Secretary (Health) Dr. Rajan N. Khobragade, Industries Director Harkishore, officials from KMSCL, KSDDPL, KINFRA, also attended the meeting. UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
