KGMC Hospital To Get Advanced Emergency Medicine Dept

District Collector Sambasiva Rao here on Tuesday said that emergency medicine department of the Kozhikode Government Medical College hospital will be modernised to provide better facilities to public.

Delivering the keynote address during the commissioning of renovated labour room and Dr K C Rajagopalan Hall at department of Pediatrics at Institute of Maternal and Child Health, he said operation of the triage has already been commenced at Emergency medicine department and the department will be upgraded with advanced facilities in a phased manner. Collector also hailed the decision taken by the Kozhikode Government Medical College principal Dr V R Rajendran to make compulsory posting of post-graduate students in the Emergency medicine department.

He said that quality wings will be formed at the hospitals to ensure highest standard of quality at all the hospitals inside the medical college campus. He said that floating ward concept will be executed to resolve the shortage of beds which force the patients to lay on the floor. He said that departments will have to share beds to resolve complaints of the patients about shortage of beds.

Collector also emphasized on the need to speed up the official process involved in the execution of e-health project at the medical college. He said that the electronic health report needs to be introduced at the hospitals at the medical college campus to avoid long queue of people at the hospital. He said that effective execution of E-health project will help to improve the OP (Out Patient) access. He said patients from other districts can get OP ticket online and they need not arrive at the hospital at 5 am to stand in queue to get OP tickets. He said when the technology is available then one needs to make use of it to provide better services to the public. Collector also thrust the need of converting the IMCH as model hospital.

The labour room was renovated at a cost of more than Rs 6 lakh. The hall was renovated at a cost of Rs 9.60 lakh.

Deputy mayor Meera Darshak inaugurated the renovated labour room and seminar hall. Dr V R Rajendran, principal of Kozhikode Government Medical College, Dr K G Sajeeth Kumar of Kozhikode Government Medical College hospital; Dr Sreekumar of IMCH , National health mission district programme manager Dr A Naveen and others attended the function.-Times Of India
