LG inaugurates GP, PC units at Rainawari hospital in Srinagar

Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Thursday e-inaugurated the Geriatric Pain (GP) and Palliative Care (PC) units at JLNM Hospital Rainawari, Srinagar.

After inauguration, LG said that the step is aimed at strengthening the healthcare facilities to elderly and critically-ill ageing patients.

He called upon departments to implement various social welfare schemes for the elderly people.

“It is the responsibility of all to make them aware of this new facility which is available in the district hospital. The success of this historic initiative will be fully realized when no person has to wander for treatment, and the administration itself reaches out to the needy,” he said.

The Lt Governor expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the health sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing his views about the step, Director, Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather told the Rising Kashmir that the geriatric wards in the hospitals will lead to a general improvement in the health sector.

“Geriatric medicine including medical facilities for the elderly people will play an important role,” he said.

He said that in every district, geriatric wards will function smoothly for the patients.

Spokesperson, DHSK, Dr Mir Mushtaq told Rising Kashmir the risk of hospitalisation increases with age and setting up geriatric wards in the hospitals was necessary.

“Care of elderly patients including the treatment is a top priority of the healthcare system. The wards will have all the facilities and we have trained doctors to provide services in the geriatric wards,” he said.
