Boule is one of the few manufacturers that develops and manufactures instruments, reagents, as well as controls and calibrators, used for complete blood count (CBC) testing. Our products are intended both for human and veterinary use. Our expertise makes us a sought-after partner for other manufacturers too; private label manufacturing is a competence that we are working strategically to leverage.

Our roots go back to the 1950s when the founder of Swelab Instrument AB, Erik Öhlin, developed Europe’s first automatic blood cell counter, which is an early predecessor of today’s instruments from Boule. The founders of Boule’s American subsidiary, Clinical Diagnostic Solutions Inc. (CDS), have a similar history from Coulter Corporation, which developed the world’s first blood cell counter. With our Swelab and Medonic product lines, Boule has a strong position in emerging markets and presence in more than 100 countries through more than 200 loyal distributors.

We focus on continued expansion in emerging markets where local presence, combined with our expertise in hematology, and robust technology solutions, give us competitive advantages.

Ongoing investments in a new product platform create the conditions for Boule to be a future leading player in decentralized blood diagnostics globally, with new and improved solutions. The new technology platform also includes a cloud-based infrastructure and services based on this. A cloud-based service solution will be first out. Overtime, additional functionality will be added and through connected services, Boule will increase end-user value.

The first instrument on the new platform, an advanced 5-part system for the global human market, is now approaching a final design. The investment in a new product platform enables an upgrade of our entire product portfolio over the next 2 to 5 years. Our long-term ambition is to continuously broaden our offering of new products and related services to deliver our high-quality systems to more people around the world.

We see an increase in the application of machine learning (artificial intelligence), for example, to improve algorithms. Boule uses this type of controlled machine learning algorithms to find patterns in large collections of data for our own product development. In the longer term, there is great potential in in vitro diagnostics where we are involved.

The help of digitization and artificial intelligence can not only process large amounts of data to generate test results, but also analyze and interpret data to facilitate clinical decisions, for example, on markets where the supply of trained staff is lower.

To manage and support a global distributor network effectively is a core capability that Boule will continue to develop in the future. An important part of the work to strengthen relationships with our distributors is increased digital presence. By offering marketing and sales support as well as attractive digital product trainings, we can deliver added value that simplifies for distributors and deepens customer relations. To ensure that everyone who in any way interacts with Boule’s products has the right training, we provide a number of different educations via Boule Academy, our training platform. Subject areas for educations can be technical training in product handling and applications, service trainings, clinical user seminars around diagnosis of specific diseases, or pure sales training so that distributors can effectively represent Boule’s solutions.

During 2022, we will increase the breadth of services from Boule Academy about application, service, and clinical interpretation of measurement results that are valuable for both our distributors as well as the end users.

Boule’s hematology offering covers the entire value chain. From development and production to installation and use at our customer sites, we ensure quality in line with the Boule total-quality concept.
