MedIndia Hospital opens dept. of metabolic syndrome

To mark the World Health Day on Thursday, MedIndia Hospitals opened the Department for Metabolic Syndrome and screened a short film in Tamil on Air Pollution – Reasons and Remedies.

T. S. Chandrasekar, chairman and chief interventional gastroenterologist, MedIndia Hospital, said the objective of the department was creating awareness, early detection and treatment of metabolic syndrome diseases.

“We will offer free consultation, relevant blood investigations, diet counselling and treatment advice (except medicines) for a year. Metabolic syndrome is the root cause of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia leading to liver cirrhosis, heart attack, brain stroke, musculoskeletal disorders and cancers,” he told reporters.

Under this, the hospital will offer daily (except on Sundays and government holidays) free fasting blood tests from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and consultation from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Public can call and register by contacting toll-free number 12789 (BSNL subscribers) and 044-28312345.

The two-minute short film was aimed at creating awareness on air pollution among the public and how modification of day-to-day activities can reduce air pollution and improve the health status, Dr Chandrasekar added. The Hindu
