Nagaland hospitals to get Rs 10 crore infra push

Hospitals in Nagaland will soon receive funds for infrastructural development as Rs. 10 Crore has been sanctioned to Nagaland by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare under Special Plan Assistance. Minister for Health & Family Welfare Kuzholuzo Nienu said that for the first time the Government of India has sanctioned Rs. 10 Crore for infrastructural development of hospitals in Nagaland.

The minister announced this while inaugurating the upgrading of Mon District Hospital building here Friday. The hospital was upgraded under the PMSP. The minister said that the department will try to equally distribute the said funds to all districts and called for proper utilization of the same.

Expressing happiness over the manner in which the building of Mon hospital has come about, the minister said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio always insists on quality control in any type of construction and further asked the people to see that quality is controlled. “We want to see that quality is controlled,” Azo said.

Referring to equipments at the Mon District Hospital, the minister said that the hospital will receive equipments in full by 2009-10. He told the gathering that the department was making efforts for creation of posts to meet the shortage of manpower in health centres.

Telling the doctors and nurses to stay in station, Azo urged them to treat the patients with care and love, adding that such an attitude will make the patients safe and sound apart from providing the basic treatment and medicines. He also called for proper utilization of medicines being provided to the health centres by the department. Azo urged the doctors to prescribe medicines that are available in the hospitals and at the same time cautioned that misuse of medicines will not be tolerated.

The minister further stressed on the need to enhance the volume of Public Private Partnership (PPP) concept, adding that whatever little contribution or support from the public and well-wishers towards the poor patients, would bring meaningful result in the health care delivery system.

Meanwhile, the Konyak Union has requested the government to upgrade the Mon District Hospital to 100 beds at an early date. Commissioner & Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Menukhol John, Mon Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Kumar and Director Health and Family Welfare Dr L. Nakhro also spoke at the occasion.
