National Medical Commission Likely In February And Replace MCI

The Medical Council of India (MCI) is set to be replaced by National Medical Commission by next month, according to the Health Ministry. The entire process will be complete in February 2020.

NMC will be responsible for the developemnt and regulations of all medical institutions in India. It will also overlook the fee structure and seat allotments of half of the private medical institution of India.

NMC to replace MCI

The NMC Act was established on August 8, 2019 by the President after the need for NMC became evident.

The need for the Act was established after several complaints and quaries arose about the workings of MCI. After NMC comes into place, MCI will be effectively abolished.

Chairman chosen for NMC

The chairman of NMC will be Professor Suresh Chandra Sharma, the head of ENT, Head and Neck Surgery Department, AIIMS. He will be chairman for three years or till the age of 70.

The secretary of NMC will be Rakesh Kumar Vats, who was also the Secretary General at MCI.

New changes by NMC

NMC has proposed that the an All India Examination should be conducted for final year medical students to get admission into Post Graduation courses and also get their licences. The examination will be called National Exit Test and will also be used as a screening text for foriegn students.

There is a three year window before NEXT is supposed to be operational so there is ample amounts of time to negotiate the specifics of the exam.-India Today
