Palliative care unit comes up at District Hospital in Kothagudem

A Palliative Care Unit to treat people living with serious illnesses and a virology lab have come up at District Hospital in Kothagudem.

MLA Vanama Venkateshwara Rao along with Zilla Parishad Chairman, Koram Kanakaiah inaugurated the facilities on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said the PCU would offer relief to patients suffering from life limiting illnesses.

With the PCU specialised medical care would be provided to patients at any stage of the disease such as cancer, blood and bone marrow disorders, heart disease and others. Specialised team of doctors would make efforts to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families.

The team would work with the patients, either adults or children, families to give them insights into how the patients could be taken care of. After improvement in the condition of patients the doctors would offer treatment to them at their homes, the MLA explained.

He said the State government was making all possible efforts to develop medical infrastructure in government hospitals and told the district health officials and the District Hospital doctors to ensure quality health services given to the patients.

The Virology Lab would help to conduct RT-PCR tests for diagnosing Covid-19 locally, In the past swab samples of suspected Covid cases were used to be sent to Hyderabad and Warangal for testing, Venkateshwara Rao noted.

Municipal Chairperson, Kapu Sitalakshmi, DM&HO Dr. JVL Sirisha, hospitals coordinator Dr. Mukkanteshwar Rao, PCU in-charge doctor Prasad, Municipal Commissioner A Sampath Kumar and tahsildar PV Ramakrishna were present. Telangana Today
