SMS Hospital-trauma Center Subway to be Ready Soon

Commuters of Tonk Road and patients of SMS Hospital will soon have sigh of relief. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is giving final touches to underpass that will provide seamless connectivity between SMS Hospital and trauma center opposite to it on Tonk Road. According to JDA officials, 90 percent civil construction work has been completed and project will be soon thrown open for the public. The (JDA) has constructed a 24-metre long underpass between SMS Hospital and trauma center. On either side of the underpass, the civic body has constructed, that could easily ferry patients on stretcher trolleys and wheelchairs,” said JDA official.

It was further informed, once the underpass is built, patients and their relatives will not have to jostle in traffic and commuting would be risk-free. With the rise in the number of accidents on the road, hospital administration had earlier asked for connectivity between the two premises several times. Moreover, the crossing between two buildings also has heavy traffic congestion. The JDA has also constructed 22 shops on either side of the underpass. A three-feet footpath has also been constructed in front of every shop for attendants. The JDA has constructed the project after spending ₹15 crore.

The project was conceptualized three-and-a-half years ago during the Congress government. However, it was delayed as the hospital fell on Jaipur Metro phase-II route. The civic body had also proposed to construct a foot over-bridge at the site. However, it was shelved due to technical reasons. “It was realized that it would be tedious to carry patients on stretcher on the footbridge. Now, the project will benefit thousands of patients who visit to state’s biggest hospital daily,” said an official. – TOI
