Transasia Bio-Medicals has recently introduced
H 360, a three-part differential hematology analyzer in India. Developed at Erba Europe, H 360 has been customized for India’s diagnostic needs. With a high throughput of 60 tests/hr for CBC, it aids in the diagnosis of various blood-related diseases and screening of disorders like thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and other hemoglobinopathies prevalent in India. Within just 6 months of the launch, the company has sold over 1200 H 360 units across the country.

H 360 reports comprehensive 22 parameters including platelet indices that are used to measure the platelet morphology and distribution. Platelet indices can be easily and rapidly measured from routine blood examination that is inexpensive and repeatable. Activation of the coagulation system due to trauma, severe infection, systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome, and other thrombotic diseases can all result in changes in platelet indices.

Platelet large cell count (P-LCC) and platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR) are additional parameters, reported only by advanced automated hematology analyzers like H 360, which can aid in differential diagnosis of conditions associated with abnormal platelet counts. P-LCC indicates the absolute platelet count above 12fL, while P-LCR is calculated as P-LCC divided by the total number of platelets.

P-LCC and P-LCR are decreased in thrombocytosis and increased in thrombocytopenia. They are seen to be significantly decreased in reactive thrombocytosis compared to neoplastic thrombocytosis and likely to be increased in destructive thrombocytopenia compared to hypo-proliferative thrombocytopenia. P-LCC and P-LCR are inversely related to platelet count and directly related to platelet distribution width (PDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV). All these parameters have a significant role in differentiating hyper-destructive thrombocytopenia and hypo-productive thrombocytopenia.

The other unique features of H 360 are auto-diluent dispensing mechanism (ADDM) that eliminates the possibility of manual errors during pre-dilution phase and reagent inventory management system (RIMS) with RFID technology that helps in optimization of inventory management by real-time tracking of consumption. Moreover, the system requires only 9 µL of sample, offering the convenience for testing of pediatric and geriatric patients and those with difficult veins.

Thus, H 360 is the instrument of choice for every laboratory due to its convenient user interface and reliable reports.
