Tripunithura launches biomed waste mgmt facility
Tripunithura municipality opened a biomedical waste treatment facility on Wednesday, in the state’s first of its kind initiative.Tom Joseph, a winner of the Arjuna Award, officially opened the facility at a function held at Tripunithura.According to the chairperson of municipality Rama Santhosh, medical waste such as syringes, medicine strips, sanitary napkins, diapers, expired drugs, etc., which would be collected from households outside the municipality limits would be handled at the biomedical waste treatment facility of Kerala Enviro Infrastructure Ltd (Keil) in Ambalamed.The first phase of the program would be implemented in the municipality’s ward no.37.
According to the chairperson, we will provide free assistance to the economically backward families and those suffering from chronic disease.The initiative was approved by the Kerala State Suchitwa Mission.At the inaugural function, municipality health inspector E M Meeran Kunhu gave the project briefing.The function was presided over by the chairperson.
