Upgrade District Hospitals, Demand Doctors

To provide people high-end health facilities at their doorsteps, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday said the government should upgrade district hospitals to primary interventional hospitals. “The medical science has evolved with such a pace that it has already touched the sky-high success in the last decade. It is now time to have a one-roof facility to give people high-end health facilities at their doorsteps,” said Dr Suhail Naik, DAK president. Naik said by doing interventions within the golden hour, the first hour after a traumatic injury when emergency treatment is most likely to be successful, doctors are potentially saving precious lives without any morbidity. “Depriving poor patients of evidence-based established health protocols and interventions within the prescribed time period is gross human rights violation,” he said. He said a good number of super specialists, who have the potential to start interventional medicine at peripheral hospitals, were working in rural healthcare. “It is time to upgrade one of the district hospitals in the north and one in the south to the interventional hospitals,” he said. – Tribune India
