New CT Scan Machine for GDMC Hospital Soon

After a long wait, the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital would soon get a new Computer Assisted Tomography (CAT) machine. After the process of tenders, the hospital administration is learnt to have finalized the company which would supply the ultra-modern machine. It is now expected that the machine would be installed at the radiology department of the GDMC Hospital within the next two months. The new machine, estimated to cost around Rs 6 crore, would be able to perform coronary angiography besides its other normal functions and would replace the old error-prone machine which would be installed at the emergency wing of the hospital. The principal GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, said that the process of selection of the new CT scan machine is in its last stage. He hoped that the new machine would be installed in two months. Notably, the hospital administration had raised the demand for a new machine to the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat when he visited the hospital in September 2017.

The demand had been accepted by the CM after which the budget for the machine had been allotted. The hospital administration had been demanding installation of the machine for a long time and many proposals had been sent by it to the State administration. The experts opine that the new machine would help in better diagnosis of the patients of neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, orthopedics and cancer. The patients of the coronary diseases would get the maximum benefit of the machine as it would be able to perform coronary CT angiography. It is worth mentioning that the existing CT scan machine has become obsolete and it is prone to repeated breakdowns. The CT scan machine had been installed at the hospital in 2004. The team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) during its visit to the hospital had also pointed out that the CT scan machine of the hospital was too old for use. Besides, it did not conform to the norms prescribed for a medical college, the team had said. – Daily Pioneer
