Better Medicines And Healthcare Have Cut Death Rate By 70%

When India became free, most people could not afford modern medicines. The death rate was high — 1 in every 45 persons died in a year. Indians born during 1955-60 could expect to live only 40 years, on average. But the growth of India’s pharma industry and the various vaccination programmes have brought down the death rate dramatically. Now, 1 in every 143 Indians dies in a year. Here’s a look. – TOI
