Chennai: Apollo Hospitals Completes 50,000 Cardiac Surgeries

Apollo Hospitals Chennai announced successful completion of 50,000 cardiac surgeries including various procedures such as bypass, Valve replacement, pediatrics cardiac procedures, transplants and minimally invasive surgeries at the flagship hospital in the city. The hospital claims a 99 percent success rate for the cardiac surgeries at the hospital. The hospital has completed 1.5 lakh surgeries across the country providing the latest medical and diagnostic tools to provide the best cardiac care. “Non-Communicable diseases are the greatest healthcare challenges facing us today, of which cardiac disease is among the most devastating,” said Dr Prathap C Reddy, executive chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group.

Talking of the huge burden of non-communicable diseases in the country, Dr Reddy cited a report by World Economic Forum that states that by 2030, more than 70 percent deaths in this world would be due to non-communicable diseases. “There is an increase in the death rate due to cardiovascular disease showing a significant increase over the last few decades. It is imperative that we meet this challenge with greater awareness about early detection and the importance of regular health checks,” he added. Apollo Hospitals started the Beating Heart Surgery Program in 1997 and 22,300 beating heart surgeries have been performed till date. This changed the course of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) at reducing the mortality rate considerably on par with Cleveland Clinic benchmark. – Deccan Chronicle
