DPRs of 5 NABARD funded medical colleges are ready in Assam

The State PWD has prepared the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of five –NABARD-funded medical colleges and hospitals in the state and submitted them to the Assam Infrastructure Finance Authority (AIFA), Government of Assam. The AIFA is taking up the issue with NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture And Rural Development).

The five proposed medical colleges will be at Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Golaghat and Tamulpur. The estimated cost of the five medical colleges is Rs 500 crore each. The government has already selected the sites for the colleges through discussion with the respective district administrations. The objective of the five medical colleges is to meet the demand of doctors in the state.

According to PWD sources, if everything goes as planned, the construction works of the medical colleges will start from fiscal 2022-23. The five medical colleges are likely to have 100 seats each. The state has eight medical colleges now, and seven are under construction. The eight existing medical colleges in the state have 1,100 MBBS seats. The Sentinel Assam
