HCG Hospitals to expand in Gujarat

HCG Hospitals is looking to expand further in Ahmedabad and Gujarat. The Bangalore-headquartered hospital has around 600 beds in Gujarat, of which 250 are in Ahmedabad. The group, which also has a presence in Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Vadodara in Gujarat, plans to open new hospitals in Ahmedabad with bigger and better amenities.

Sources said CVC Capital, a US-based private equity fund, has taken a major stake in HCG – Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd and now plans to expand pan India, including in states where they are already operational.

The HCG Group has a combined pool of 500 specialists across various domains, mainly focusing and specialising in infertility, tertiary care, cancer care and advanced diagnosis.

The group’s major thrust will be providing cancer care and treatment. In Ahmedabad, HCG has hospitals in Mithakhali and Science City areas.

Confirming the same, Dr Bharat Gadhavi, MD & CEO HCG Hospital said they are in the final stages of paperwork with CVC Capital Group.

“So far as expansion is concerned we have plans for Ahmedabad, Gujarat and other parts of India but it can’t be disclosed,” said Dr Gadhavi.

He said post-Covid, the healthcare sector has seen a lot of development with standalone hospitals keen on getting more organised by tying up with corporate hospitals. “Even corporate hospitals want to expand given the rise in demand for quality healthcare,” said Dr Gadhavi.

Other mergers & expansions
Meanwhile, another hospital group – Solar Hospitals – is also looking at expansion with a new hospital in Navrangpura. The group as part of its plans has entered into a joint venture with another hospital promoter in Ahmedabad.

Director of Solar Hospital, Dr Kaushik Goswami said they are coming up with a 120-bed multispeciality hospital in Navrangpura taking their total bed capacity to 155 beds.

Recently post-covid, Marengo Asia Healthcare took a major stake in CIMS Hospital with an investment of Rs450 crore.

Ahmedabad-based Khyati Group that is known for its real estate has ventured into the healthcare business by buying a hospital opposite Rajpath Club on SG Highway renaming it Khyati Multispecialty Hospital.

The company also plans to develop four private hospitals in the city with a proposed investment of Rs550 crore.

Industry sources said several hospitals in Ahmedabad are looking at expansion through stake sales. Ahmedabad Mirror
