Minister Moots Idea To Renovate SMS Hospital

Health minister Raghu Sharma on Wednesday mooted the idea of a long-term project to renovate the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital which is plagued by poor maintenance and does not have the capacity to manage ever increasing footfall of patients.

After his hour-long inspection, he directed officials to form a committee under medical education secretary Hemant Gera to get the feedback of different departments and units for allocating budget to resolve their problems. The minister inspected the facilities at registration and rest room, garbage depot biomedical waste area, Dhanwantri operation theatre wing, plastic surgery and underground parking, cottage wards, DDCs, main premises and second floor 3Gward. Since the main hospital building is 70 years old, safety of patients and doctors is a concern. MLAs Rafeek Khan and Ganga Devi along with district collector Jagroop Singh Yadav, medical education principal secretary Hemant Gera and officials of JMC and SMS Hospital accompanied the minister during the survey.

The team inspected the areas where a false ceiling had collapsed and the cardiac ICU. The areas which are often inundated with water during rains were also inspected. The minister expressed his resentment over garbage collection point and directed JMC officials to shift the point to somewhere else. – TOI
