Syru 6006 from AKAS Medical Equipment

Over the past few years, R&D has been working on solving niche problems of customers, using innovative ideas, and some of these innovations have been added to Syru 6006 syringe pumps.

From the software angle, the Syru 6006 is equipped with the dose-error reduction system (DERS) software. DERS allows syringe pumps to warn users of incorrect medication orders, calculation errors, or mis-programming that would result in significant under or over delivery of a drug, electrolyte, or other fluid. Infusion pumps that have a DERS are often referred to as smart pumps. DERS is an important part of a facility’s defense against medication errors.

The software side has improved to accommodate a bigger drug list of up to 2000 in the Drug Library Mode. The keypad section has been improved by adding Auto Bolus and Purge Bolus as two separate keys for the nursing staff to be able to use them at their convenience, without having to toggle between these settings. Auto Bolus has a major function when you want to prime the PMO line and catheter for exact dead-space volume, as mentioned on the packaging. The flow rates can be adjusted from 0.01 mL/h on the 2-mL and 5-mL syringes to ensure better accuracy in neonatal and pediatric cases. There is an additional increase in a key called aspire. This button on pressing makes the pump run reverse up to 2 mL maximum for purposes of reduction in drug wastage, etc.

The Syru 6006 also comes with optional Wi-Fi, which can remove the need to have information wires connecting multiple pumps to the central monitoring station using the RS232 connection. The Syru 6006 comes with a strip-LED above the syringe loading position, which glows during the night time when lighting becomes dull, and its lighting can be adjusted to suit customer comfort levels in the ICU. The product is also equipped with corner LEDs, which can glow in multiple colors. When the drug name chosen is of the vasopressor category, the LEDs glow in violet (as per international color coding standards) and green, indicating a vasopressor drug is getting infused.

Syru 6006 also comes equipped with DPS (dynamic pressure system), where the pressure in the PMO line is displayed on the screen, helping nurses identify an occlusion even before the occlusion has occurred, enhancing patient care. The same technology helps improve occlusion detection earlier, resulting in better patient care. It also comes with an upgradable PCA option used in pain management.

The Syru 6006 comes with features to help all the stakeholders involved in the usage and management of the products. The biomedical engineer can now automatically know the annual maintenance due dates, etc. The nursing staff can use the machine in the drug-library mode to reduce medication errors. Doctors have event logs used in analyzing the drug’s delivery and its interruptions. The management has used hours, which indicates the number of hours the syringe pumps were infusing drugs from the date of purchase, helping in lifecycle management. Overall, the Syru 6006 is a product made for all stakeholders.
