VESMATIC 5 from Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd.

Automation is the need of the hour in ESR testing. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a commonly performed blood test that may specify and monitor an increase in inflammatory activity within the body caused by one or more conditions such as autoimmune disease, infections, or tumors. ESR remains one of the essential prognostic criteria in Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) or temporal arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatic. The ESR test is not specific for any one disease but is used in combination with other tests to determine the presence of increased inflammatory activity.

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a laboratory test that serves as a “sickness index” in conjunction with the patient’s clinical history and physical examination findings. It has been a popular procedure for many years. ESR is an inexpensive and simple test for evaluating the inflammatory response, infection, trauma, or malignant disease. This test is also an important prognostic factor in non-inflammatory conditions such as coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and prostate cancer.

Importance of automation in ESR testing
Increased awareness of biohazards’ risk to the laboratory staff has led to safer methods for performing ESR. Advantages of automation of ESR technology include savings on labor, eliminating the need for additional blood collection and therefore more efficient use of sample volumes, shorter turnaround times, and elimination of biohazard waste generation.

At a time when the demand for effective and efficient medical solutions is on the rise, ESR automation is poised to play an increasingly significant role in the healthcare industry.

Advancement in ESR testing: Transasia’s offering
Transasia offers an exclusive range of ESR analyzers that intend to meet the needs of different kinds of customers depending on their specific TAT requirements.

Continuous loading automation with faster TAT is essential for labs with challenging workload. The VESMATIC 5 is the next-generation automated and highly advanced analyzer for estimating ESR using EDTA samples that fits well into the big laboratory workflow. It has a modern and interactive graphic user interface. The samples from the cell counter racks are continuously loaded in the analyzer without interruptions in each machine work phase. The analyzer is compatible with all types of racks and EDTA vacutainers. It provides artificial intelligence (AI)-based recognition of lipemic, hemolyzed, coagulated, and mislabeled samples, and consists of loT with internal cameras for advanced remote assistance.

How does VESMATIC 5 work?
The analysis is carried out completely automatically. For the first batch, results are obtained in 25 minutes, every subsequent sample is reported in 19 seconds. The results obtained are in good correlation with the Westergren method. The maximum analytical capacity of the system is 190 results/hour. The instrument does not produce any waste, thus ensuring complete safety for the operator and economic savings in the disposal of hospital waste. There is also a provision for the detection of pediatric samples and correction of the ESR value for samples with low Hematocrit.

ESR testing in laboratory medicine
The ESR test is in existence for over a century and remains one of the most frequently performed procedures in many hematology laboratories. Thus, despite the availability of alternative inflammatory parameters such as CRP, ESR, is still a frequently requested parameter and probably the most widely measured index of acute phase response.

Automation gives an assurance of accurate and precise results by eliminating manual intervention and with possible quality checks, reduces biohazard risks and improves speed, thus making ESR tests simpler in lab work.

Transasia as a leading pioneer in the in-vitro diagnostics space ensures these technologies are introduced for the ultimate benefit of patients, their families, and care providers.
